"This computer has not been authorized..."
Submitted by altj on Wed, 09/19/2007 - 12:36
For a while now, I've been getting this error when I try to put music on my mp3 player from Rhapsody: "This computer has not been authorized to play Rhapsody subscription tracks. To authorize, select My Account -> Authroize Computer from the Rhapsody menu."
I would do what it said and keep getting that message every time.
Finally, today I found out that all I had to do was delete my Helix License and update those components. If I recall correctly, Helix is Real's DRM voodoo magic.
Anyway, here are the steps. (I recommend visiting the page referenced at the bottom for important warnings before actually performing these steps.)
To delete Helix Licenses and update Helix Components:
- Close out of all programs, such as Rhapsody, Windows Media Player, and Internet Explorer.
- Disconnect all USB MP3 players, removable storage drives, etc., from the system.
- Open My Computer on the desktop.
- Open the drive letter that Rhapsody is installed on (usually drive C:).
- Open the Program Files folder, then open the Rhapsody folder.
- Find and double-click the Delete Helix Licenses file (VISTA USERS: right-click and select "Run As Administrator").
- A command window will open. Type yes to all questions and press ENTER.
- Find and double-click the Update Helix Components file (VISTA USERS: right-click and select "Run As Administrator").
- A command window will open. Type yes to all questions and press ENTER.
- Open Rhapsody and follow the Setup prompts. *
- When Rhapsody is finished running through setup, ensure your computer is authorized.
